Ben Curtis is a historian of the south Wales coalfield. In addition to his Research Associate role, he is a history tutor at Cardiff University’s Centre for Lifelong Learning. He completed his PhD, on ‘The South Wales Miners 1964-1985’, in 2007. In 2008 he was the historical researcher for the BBC ‘living history’ television series Coal House at War. In 2010 he spoke at an international mining history conference in France. His published academic work has appeared in Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Labour History Review, Llafur, Welsh History Review, Morgannwg and Labour Briefing. He contributed a chapter to the book Heroes and Villains in Welsh History, edited by H.V. Bowen (Llandysul, 2012). He has had two essays published in the Western Mail, in 2011 and 2012. His monograph The South Wales Miners, 1964-1985 will be published in 2013. He is the Treasurer of Llafur, the Welsh People’s History Society.
