The Citadel.jpgAlexandra Jones of Swansea University introduces a screening of the 1938 film adaptation of A.J. Cronin's classic novel The Citadel, about a doctor facing corruption in the South Wales mining valleys.

Film synopsis

Andrew Manson, a young doctor takes his first job in a Welsh mining town and begins to wonder at the persistent cough of many of the miners. When his attempts to prove its cause are thwarted, his dream of a career healing people without compromises, is challenged by the material temptations of his profession.
